The average form shown by his side has been such that talk of a mass cull of the Old Trafford playing staff is by no means unexpected and Moyes will hope that offloading such a major portion of his squad leaves him with ample funds to bring in new additions as he seeks to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson last summer.

Moyes will look to get to work on his squad re-shuffle straight away by selling Brazilian midfielder Anderson to Serie A side Fiorentina, a move that is long overdue given the poor form shown by the 25 year old over recent seasons.

Wingers Nani and Wilfried Zaha will be loaned out with moves to Sporting Lisbon and Cardiff City said to be on the cards, with permanent switches perhaps to follow in the summer.

Defensive trio Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra will leave then their contracts come to an end in the summer, with the emphasis on youth as David Moyes looks to ring the changes at the back.
