Mega-rich Premier League outfit Manchester City are lining up a whopping £30m bid for coveted Southampton left-back Luke Shaw in the January transfer window, according to reports in the Mail on Sunday.

The in-demand England Under-21 international is currently being chased by a number of big-name Premier League clubs, including both champions Manchester United and Chelsea.

However, both those two powerhouses were hoping to be able to wait until the end of this season before making their own moves for Shaw, a delay which may now open the door for City to lure the 18-year-old to Eastlands before the winter window closes shut for business for the season at the end of this month.

City head coach Manuel Pellegrini is known to not fancy either of his current left-sided full backs in the north west, Frenchman Gael Clichy or Serb Aleksandr Kolarov.

And now the experienced Chilean is hoping that an offer of £30m – which would be a world-record sum for a full back, beating the £29.5m that FC Barcelona splashed out to sign right-back Dani Alves from Sevilla – will be enough to convince the Saints to part company with Shaw.
