The Gunners, along with several other Premier League sides are said to have been monitoring his progress for a number of years now, and reports today have suggested that that the north London outfit are ready to step up their interest in the cultured 20-year-old.

Arsene Wenger sent his trusted head scout Steve Rowley to watch the England Under-20 international take on Bolton Wanderers in a 1-1 draw at the weekend and was impressed by what he saw.

Lescalles has a commanding arial presence at 6’2 and has become a regular at the heart of Billy Davies’ defence this season, helping the East Midlands club into the playoff places as well as guiding them into the fourth round of the FA Cup too.

Forest reportedly knocked back a £5m offer for the player in 2011 and are still thought to be keen on hanging on to him as they look to finally make a return to the top flight, however, a large fee may force them to reconsider their stance.
