David Moyes, fresh from celebrating a much needed win over Swansea City, was at the Sant’Elia Stadium in Cagliari with a firm eye on Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio who could well be seen as the Old Trafford boss’s main January transfer window target.

Marchisio has played second fiddle to former Man United youngster Paul Pogba, who along with Arturo Vidal and veteran Andrea Pirlo, have been the mainstays of Antonio Conte’s midfield.

Moyes’s target started the game on the bench but was brought on after an hour and scored the goal that put the Turin side ahead as Juventus came from behind to thump Sardinia side Cagliari 4-1.

The Man United boss has apparently got a massive £150m transfer war-chest to play with and as well as freshening up his midfield he is also looking to bring in defensive additions and was also running the rule over 27 year old Cagliari centre-back Davide Astori who has in the past been of real interest to Southampton.

With Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand all set to be out of contract in the summer it does appear that it could be the end of an era for a number of regular members of the Man United back-line.
