The 26 year old Blues star has been in and out of the first team set-up this term and the Stamford Bridge side are now happy to accept offers of around €35m (£29m) for Luiz, a fee that the Nou Camp side may be ready to fork out as they look to strengthen their very slim central defensive options.
Luiz has perhaps worked more effectively in a defensive midfield role for Mourinho this term but that’s not an area Gerardo Martino needs concern himself with as he has a number of top quality central midfielders to select from with the likes of Xavi, Sergio Busquets, Cesc Fabregas, Javier Mascherano, Andres Iniesta and Alex Song in his armoury.
However at the back he only really has two effective senior centre-backs to select from, one of them being veteran Carles Puyol and the other being Gerard Pique, so one can see why the La Liga side would take a keen interest in Luiz.
Luiz is fighting John Terry, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic for a spot in Mourinho’s back four and has started just nine of Chelsea’s 21 Premier League fixtures thus far this season.
