The Magpies are currently on the look out for a new striker with Senegal international Papiss Cisse on the verge of leaving St James’ Park in the January transfer window for an as yet unnamed club in Qatar for a transfer fee believed to be somewhere in the region of £9m.

And the man that Newcastle head coach Alan Pardew wants to replace Cisse with up front in the north east is the Netherlands international, with de Jong himself seemingly desperate to join the Geordies too.

“I can imagine going,” said the 23-year-old on the weekend.

“My coach will change things in the second half but not that much.”
