The 23 year old German international moved to White Hart Lane last January but has failed to force his way into securing a regular first team starting berth and may well be tempted by a move back to his former Bundesliga employers, a move his agent, Marcus Noack, has discussed publicly, stating;

“Lewis is desperate to play, which is why we are looking intensively for solutions,” Noack told the Bild newspaper. “Schalke is an interesting option.”

Holtby has started just six Premier League fixtures this term though has proved effective during Tottenham’s Europa League run.

Spurs boss Tim Sherwood clearly has a wealth of midfield options to call upon with the likes of Sandro, Moussa Dembele, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, and youngster Nabil Bentaleb all vying for contention so therefore the loaning out of Holtby could be a deal the Premier League club are open to.

Holtby has barely featured since Sherwood took over from Andre Villas-Boas and may feel that he isn’t an integral part of the new manager’s plans.
