The Reds have suffered from a number of key and untimely injuries to both their left and right backs so far in this campaign, with the likes of Glen Johnson, John Flanagan,  Jose Enrique and Aly Cissokho all having been sidelined at one point or another.

And with first-choice left-back Enrique still out of action having been forced to undergo surgery on a knee problem last year, with the Spaniard not expected back until next month at the earliest, Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers has made the purchase of a new left back his number one priority of the winter transfer window.

And the man that the Northern Irishman is said to be targeting is Fenerbahce’s Turkey international, with Erkin having been with the Istanbul giants for the past four years now, during which time the 25-year-old has managed to net eight goals in total his 130 matches in all competitions for the Turks, including four strikes in his 95 league outings for the club.
