The Brazil international has struggled badly to win a regular starting berth in the Premier League champions’ back four ever since first arriving at Old Trafford from Fluminense in July 2008.

So much so that the full back spent the whole of the previous campaign out on loan with Queens Park Rangers, during which time the 23-year-old featured in a total of 23 matches in all competitions for the west London club, finding the back of the net once in the process.

However, despite playing in 21 Premier League matches for Harry Redknapp’s side, the Brazilian was still unable to prevent QPR from being relegated to the Championship come the end of the campaign, with Fabio then returning to the Theatre of Dreams last summer.

And now after only two games for the Red Devils under new boss David Moyes, the defender is to be loaned out to the Bluebirds according to one of the club’s sponsors, Airtel, who accidentally recently tweeted: “Unfortunately, Fabio will be joining Cardiff City on loan till the end of season & hence only Rafael will join us for #airtelAskUnited”.
