The White Hart Lane side had set their sights on Juventus veteran Andrea Pirlo but the Italian international is set to sign a new contract extension with the Serie A title holders which has led to the North London club setting their sights on 29 year old playmaker Sneikder.
Tim Sherwood has a plethora of tough tacklers among his central midfield complement, Sandro, Etienne Capoue, Paulinho and Moussa Dembele capable of adding steel but the Spurs boss may be looking for a tad more invention to help boost his side’s lacklustre goal tally.
Former Real Madrid and Inter Milan man Sneijder has been linked with a move away from Turkish giants Galatasaray for some months but given that his side are through to the last 16 of the Champions League a move this month seems unlikely.
Having forked out more than £100m on new additions last summer Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may be looking at more cost effective additions in the next two transfer windows, hence targeting players in the latter stages of their careers.
A move for Sneijder may prove more fruitful at the end of the season and even then Champions League qualification may have to be a pre-requisite for a successful approach for the flair player.
