The Italy international has been heavily linked with a number of Premier League clubs of late, with both north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur believed to also be interested in luring the striker to the English top flight before the winter transfer window finally slams shut for business for the season again at the end of the month.

Destro only moved to the Italian capital from fellow Serie A outfit Sienna in July 2012, with the striker replacing the Liverpool-bound forward Fabio Borini at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, it is fair to say that in the intervening 18 months, the 22-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth in the Romans’ forward line, with head coach Rudi Garcia instead preferring to go with the likes of  Ivory Coast international Gervinho and veteran Francesco Totti instead up front.

As a result, the Italian has managed to find the back of the net on just nine occasions in total in his 24 Serie A outings for Roma.
