The Portugal Under-21 international only arrived at Anfield from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth £7m at the start of this season, with the centre back joining the Reds on transfer deadline day.

However, Ilori has still to make even a single appearance for his new team so far this season, with Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers preferring to ease the 20-year-old in slowly to his new surroundings.

And while the Portuguese did make a rare appearance for Liverpool on the substitutes’ bench for their recent FA Cup third-round clash with Oldham Athletic at Anfield, Rodgers is understood to prefer to send Ilori out on a six-month loan deal this month in order for the central defender to gain as much playing time as possible between now and the end of the campaign.

“Tiago has had that adaptation period of six months or so since coming into the club,” Rodgers told the Echo.

“The next phase is for him to get some game time behind him. A young centre half really need to be playing.”

And the two clubs said to be vying for Ilori are Liga outfits Valencia and Granada.
