Vidic’s, 32, is out of contract at the end of this season and the centre half has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, after his agent admitted that talks over a new deal were yet to take place.

The Serbia international has been a rock at the back for the Red Devils since arriving from Spartak Moscow in 2006 but the uncompromising defender has suffered a series of injuries in recent seasons.

European giants Juventus, Roma, Napoli, Monaco and Galatasaray have all been linked with Vidic but Kezman, who spent a season in the Premier League with Chelsea in 2004/5, believes his compatriot is likely to remain at Old Trafford.

“Nemanja Vidic is a top player and big friend of mine. I spoke to him a few months ago and he said then that he was waiting to see what will happen with his contract,” Kezman is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.

“I would give him a new contract. It’s true he’s not the player he was a few years ago, he’s a bit injury-prone, but he’s still a leader. Manchester United need him in the dressing room, around the young players.

“He’s not unhappy. He’s been there for years and would like to stay for another season. He loves the club, the city, the fans, everybody. I’m sure he will do his best to stay at United if they offer him a contract.”

Vidic has made nearly 300 appearances for United, helping the club to five Premier League titles and one Champions League crown.
