Defensive midfielder has a contract at the Dragao until 2016.

The coveted Belgium international very nearly moved to Premier League champions Manchester United a few years ago before suffering a serious leg injury which prevented the player from making his dream switch to Old Trafford.

And there were even rumours towards the back end of the previous campaign again linking the holding midfielder with a transfer to the Theatre of Dreams, although with Sir Alex Ferguson having since left his post as manager of the Red Devils, Defour’s hopes of signing for United now appear over.

However, the 25-year-old could still be in line for a move to the Premier League in the winter transfer window, with Villa having already expressed an interest in luring the former Standard Liege star away from the Portuguese champions this month.

But it appears as though Defour would rather move to White Hart Lane instead if given the choice, and with the north London club expecting to offload a number of players in his position, there still remains that possibility.
