The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Manchester United this month and his agent, Robson Ferreira, admitted on Tuesday that an unnamed Premier League club had bid for the playmaker.
“We did bring a €10m [£8.3m] offer to Cruzeiro for Everton Ribeiro but we won’t reveal the club in order not to affect the negotiations, after all they are in the middle of their season,” Ferreira was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
“We presented the offer to Cruzeiro, we talked and we will schedule another meeting within the next days.
“The club want to keep him and the player also wants to help the club in the Copa Libertadores.
“We’ll try to merge all the interests.”
Although United scouts have watched the 24-year-old in the past 12 moths, Spurs are thought to be the club in talks with Cruzeiro.
The North Lodoners’ head-coach Tim Sherwood has publicly stated his priority is getting the club’s existing first team players fit, rather than entering the transfer market this month, but sporting director Franco Baldini is a fan of Ribeiro, who fits the transfer policy of chairman Daniel Levy.
Spurs already boast a host of attacking midfielders but Lewis Holtby, Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli have all been linked with moves away from White Hart Lane this month.
