The Red Devils head coach David Moyes has been handed a bumper £100m transfer war chest in which to spend in this month’s window, and it is in central midfield that the Scot is understood to be most keen to strengthen.

And two of the names on Moyes’s wish list are said to be those of England internationals Barkley and Lallana, although United know that it will not be easy to lure either youngster to the Theatre of Dreams however.

Other names on Moyes’s wish list are believed to include AS Roma’s Miralem Pjanic, Lazio’s Hernanes, Atletico de Madrid’s Koke and Paris St-Germain’s Luca Moura.

However, of those six players, Spain international Koke has just agreed to put pen to paper on a contract extension with Atleti, and so ruling out any hope that Moyes may have harboured of signing the goalscoring midfielder.

In fact, it seems that United’s best chance rests with trying to exploit the current uncertainty surrounding the Saints to land Lallana.
