The White Hart Lane side are keen to strengthen their attack with both Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado struggling for form and Jermain Defoe set to join MLS side Toronto FC and Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has set his sights on Belgian international Benteke.
Sherwood is ready to offer players plus cash for the 22 year old, who is thought to be valued by his Villa Park employers at around £15m.
The 23 year old has failed to match the impact of his first campaign at Aston Villa, during which he smashed in 19 Premier League goals to steer Paul Lambert’s side away from the drop zone, but has recently found his scoring boots scoring in his last two fixtures against Arsenal and Liverpool.
Lambert will not want to lose Benteke but if the former Racing Genk man is tempted by a move to Tottenham then there is perhaps a chance he could look to force the issue by putting in a transfer request.
Benteke may feel that a move to Tottenham would further aid his push for a prominent role in the Belgian national team set-up for the upcoming 2014 World Cup finals tournament.
