CaughtOffside understands that United’s owners the Glazers are set to stand by the under fire boss and will look to bring in significant additions this month in a bid to secure that all important top four finish, now seen as the very least the Man United manager is expected to achieve in his debut season.

Moyes is to launch a £39m bid for Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata having been given encouragement to do so by the Spaniard’s representatives who are keen for the Spaniard to stay in the English top tier as their client has settled well in England.

Mata has started just half of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures this season and hasn’t seen a single minute of action since his angry reaction to being hauled off against Southampton and now Jose Mourinho is ready to cash-in on the former Valencia man who has fallen below Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian in the Stamford Bridge creative midfield pecking order.

David Moyes will then turn to his defence and look to bring in a strong central defender with a view to freshen up his back-line, with both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic set to leave the club in the summer when their contracts come to an end.

Man United are ready to mount a £25m bid for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels, who has recently been linked with a Westfalenstadion exit.

Boss Jurgen Klopp has seen Robert Lewandowski agree a summer free transfer switch to domestic rivals Bayern Munich and will fear further exits as Dortmund fall way off the Bundesliga title pace, with the club now down in fourth spot.

The 25 year old is set to return from an ankle injury and could be tempted by a fresh challenge and Moyes will offer the German international the chance to lead his new look Man United defence, this opportunity coupled with a massive pay-rise could prove enough to convince the rock solid defender to make the move to the Premier League title holders.

The Man United manager is also looking to land Everton right-back Seamus Coleman, having seemingly given up hope on bringing in Toffees star Leighton Baines.

Moyes is said to be looking to land Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao to fill the left-back role but is willing to hold out until the summer to bring in the Portuguese international, content to remain with veteran Patrice Evra until his expected departure back to France in the summer.

Republic of Ireland international Coleman has been in fine form this season and Roberto Martinez would be loathed to lose the 25 year old but Man United’s imminent £18m offer for a player who cost the Goodison Park side just £60k back in January 2009 could be tough for chairman Bill Kenwright to turn down and Moyes is confident he can tempt his former charge to join him at Old Trafford.
