French forward set for lengthy ban.

Check in to Aston Villa vs West Bromwich Albion

West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka has been charged by the FA following his controversial goal celebration against West Ham last month according to the BBC.

The 34 year old forward performed a “quenelle” gesture following his first goal against the Hammers on the 28th of December, a sign that has been described as as an inverted Nazi salute.

The experienced Frenchman will face a minimum five match ban if found guilty by the Football Association and West Brom have already seen shirt sponsors Zoopla elect to not renew their deal with the Baggies over their decision to field Anelka in last night’s match against Everton.

Anelka has proven something of a flop since moving to the Hawthorns over the summer, scoring just two goals in 13 Premier League appearances.
