Chelsea have reportedly accepted a £37m bid from Man United for Spaniard Juan Mata.

The Old Trafford side is to hand the former Valencia man a four year contract with a medical penciled in for tomorrow morning, a move that would help detract attention from Man United’s Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Sunderland.

Jose Mourinho hasn’t used Juan Mata since his angry reaction to being subbed against Southampton and the attacking midfielder has started just half of the West London club’s 22 Premier League fixtures.

This is a far cry from the pivotal role he has played in the previous two seasons, during which he won Chelsea’s Player of the Year on both occasions, scoring 32 goals and providing 55 assists as the Blues secured Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup triumphs.

David Moyes urgently needs to freshen up his options in the final third and Mata would provide some much needed creativity to the club’s midfield whilst also offering the Premier League title holders a new goal scoring threat.

The move will also help Mata secure the first team football he needs ahead of the 2014 World Cup finals and Moyes will hope his presence will aid his push for a crucial top four finish.

Mourinho has already banked £16m from the sale of Kevin de Bruyne to Wolfsburg, whilst also spending £21m to sign Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic, with a move for a new striker also likely before the January transfer window slams shut.
