Rumours have been rife in recent weeks linking the highly rated Spain Under-21 international with a possible move away from the Vincente Calderon during this month, with the likes of Uefa Europa League holders Chelsea, Premier League champions Manchester United and top-flight leaders Arsenal all having expressed an interest in signing Niguez in January.

In fact, the north London club’s head coach Arsene Wenger has even recently met with the Spaniard’s father and agent Luis to discuss his son moving to the Emirates, although now the Reds are said to be set to hijack the Gunners’ planned swoop for the 19-year-old.

And that is because the Merseysiders’ own manager, Brendan Rodgers, is reported to have also now held face-to-face discussions with Luis Niguez over the weekend as the Northern Irishman ponders making an offer for the midfield starlet.

Niguez Jnr is currently on a season-long loan with La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano and with a contract at the Vincente Calderon that runs until June 2016, it is believed that Atleti value the player at £20m.
