Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven are interested in signing unsettled Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby in the January transfer window, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

It is understood that new Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood and technical director Franco Baldini met at the north London club’s training ground on Friday for face-to-face talks about just which first-team players would be allowed to leave White Hart Lane this month.

Holtby himself has only been in the capital now for just over a year after the Germany international first joined Spurs from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 in last year’s January transfer window on a four-and-a-half-year deal for a transfer fee of just 1.75m euros.

However, it is fair to say that in the intervening 12-month period, the 23-year-old has found it hard to win a regular starting berth in the north Londoners’ midfield, with Holtby having so far managed to hit the back of the net on a total of only three times in his 36 matches in all competitions for his new team, including just the solitary strike in his 23 Premier League outings.

And as a result, PSV are now hoping to be able to sign the player on a permanent deal in January after seeing an initial offer to take Holtby on a six-month loan deal rejected by Spurs.
