Stoke have confirmed that the deal has been agreed and will be dependent on both players completing a medical and agreeing personal terms, and they hope to have the Nigerian international on board in time for the weekend.

Odemwingie only linked up with the side from the Welsh capital in September, leaving Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion for a fee believed to be around £2m and quickly got to work by scoring twice in his first four games, but has so far failed to add to that tally in his 13 appearances since.

Jones, however, was dropped and fined by Stoke last month for sending a text message to manager Mark Hughes just hours before his side’s 5-3 defeat to Liverpool to inform him that he could not play.

And speaking after Cardiff’s 1-0 victory over Bolton in the FA Cup manager Ole Gunnar Solskjear said: “There is potentially a deal to be done, with Peter going to Stoke and Kenwyne coming to us.

“Obviously, you cannot confirm anything until papers are signed and medicals are done, but we are quite a long way down that road.

“I can’t say anything about any other players, but I know Stoke have brought out a statement so I can confirm what they have said.”
