The Gunners have long been linked with the playmaker but Schalke are thought to be holding out for the 20-year-old’s full £37m release clause – while the Premier League leaders hope to land the playmaker for closer to £25m.
Draxler has previously admitted he is in touch with Arsenal’s current crop of German players and would be attracted by a switch to North London.
In a move that will encourage the Gunners, Schalke’s sporting director Horst Heldt refused to rule out selling Draxler after Sunday’s 3-0 win at Hamburg.
“I can’t exclude anything, I don’t know what other clubs are planning. I only know what happens in our club – and nothing happens at the moment, so we don’t bother with this,” Heldt is quoted as saying by The Metro.
“We are very calm with this thing.”
