The Denmark international is of course the son of former Red Devils goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel and with new United head coach David Moyes said to be keen on finding a new backup keeper to current first-choice David de Gea between the sticks at Old Trafford next season, the 27-year-old may be about to follow in his father’s illustrious footsteps.

Current United second-choice Anders Lindegaard is expected to leave the Theatre of Dreams come the end of the campaign in the search of more regular first-team football, opening up a gap at the club that Schmeichel Jnr could fill.

In fact, United may even attempt to sign the player in this month’s January transfer window and then offer to loan the Dane back to the high-flying Foxes in order to aid their push for promotion to the Premier League, before then bringing Schmeichel to the club on a permanent basis for the following campaign.
