Defender will not be allowed to leave St Mary’s this month though.
Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea are preparing to go head to head in the battle to sign exciting young Southampton left-back Luke Shaw at the end of the season, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.
The England Under-21 international is now one of the most sought-after players in his position in the Premier League, and it is expected that come this summer, both the Premier League champions and the Uefa Europa League holders will once again go toe to toe in the transfer market as they have already done on two occasions recently.
Firstly when the west London club unsuccessfully attempted to lure England international Wayne Rooney from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge in the previous transfer window and then again in the current January window with the £37.1m sale of Spain international Juan Mata from the Blues to the Theatre of Dreams.
And now with both outfits said to be desperate to sign a new left back at the end of this campaign, battle is set to resume again for the services of the Saints’ 18-year-old full back who is contracted to the south cost club until June 2018 after signing a contract extension last summer.
