The 22-year-old is currently on loan with Serie B outfit Vitrus Lanciano, where he has helped the side climb up to fourth in the table with half the season left to play and Pochettino could look to make a move for him should veteran hit man Rickie Lambert decide to move on from the south coast.
However, the Saints will face some competition from sides in Italy as both Varese and Juve Stabia are said to be keen on brining him on board on a permanent basis too.
Sassuolo aren’t thought to be looking to sell the 22-year-old, though, after impressing with some fleeting displays during the club’s own rise to Serie A last term, and is continuing his education in Italy’s second tier by bagging three goals in 26 appearances for his loan side, as well as adding to his collection of caps for the Italian under-21 side.
He had also spent some time on loan with Stabia last season, but the Saints manager is confident that he will be able to fend off the interest from elsewhere.
