The young German international has struggled to retain a foothold in the White Hart Lane starting eleven and appears to be a player boss Tim Sherwood would be willing to offload though this source claims such a move would only net the North London club £5m, which doesn’t seem a large enough fee for the player in today’s inflated transfer market.

Tottenham paid just over £1m to bring in Holtby from Schalke last January but his price was only so low due to his contract with the Gelsenkirchen side being close to completion, now that the 23 year old is tied down to a Spurs contract until 2018 his value will be considerably higher.

Westfalenstadion boss Jurgen Klopp is no doubt keen to strengthen his squad this month as Borussia Dortmund look to get their push for a top four finish in the Bundesliga back on track and Holtby will also be available for Champions League action.

Holtby has made just six Premier League starts this season, the last of which came back on Boxing Day and the cultured midfielder may well feel the pull of a return to his native Germany a big one, especially with a move to giants Dortmund.
