It’s a move that already looks doomed to failure as by all accounts Etihad Stadium boss Manuel Pellegrini is not keen on losing the adaptable 28 year old utility player.
Brendan Rodgers is apparently keen on bringing in the England man on a loan move this month with a view to sealing a £10m permanent switch in the summer.
The former Leeds United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United man is into his fourth season at Man City though this term only six of his 20 Premier League appearances have been starts with Pellegrini using the likes of Jesus Navas, David Silva and Samir Nasri in roles Milner usually fills.
Milner will have a year to run on his current contract in the summer, hence Rodgers sense that the England man could be available.
A move to Liverpool this month could perhaps aid Milner’s push for a more prominent role in Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup squad.
Rodgers has seen Jordan Henderson go off the boil following an impressive start to the campaign and with Lucas Leiva out injured there is certainly a need to strengthen his options in the midfield.
