Ligue 1 big spenders to gazump English duo.
Premier League giants Manchester City and Liverpool look set to miss out on landing the signature of talented Benfica midfielder Andre Gomes as Monaco look to blow them out of the water with their own bid, according to Sports Direct News.
Both sides had been keeping close watch on the up and coming 20-year-old, but reports in his native Portugal believe that Monaco are preparing a mammoth bid to oust the interest coming from the Premier League.
The Ligue 1 moneybags are now favourites to land the Portugal under-21 international thanks to the bottomless pit of financial backing and the crazy ambition of their owners, however, that is not thought to be enough to prevent an outright bidding war between the three sides, who are all desperate to secure his future.
Gomes made his way through the Benfica youth set up and quickly graduated to their B team where he impressed so much that he was fast tracked to the starting XI and he has since made nine appearances for the club this term, scoring once.
Benfica aren’t looking to sell, though, and as he is under contract until 2019 it will take a monumental bid to prize him away.
