The Cameroonian international linked up with the Blues over the summer and was largely thought to be a temporary stop gap to the club’s striking issues.

He is just one of several players in the final year of their deals and he joins the likes of Frank Lampard, John Terry and Ashley Cole in waiting to see if they have future’s with the club.

However, the 32-year-old is beginning to find his feet in the Premier League after a slow start, and Mourinho has suggested that he could be in line for a prolonged stay despite some heavy interest from MLS and European sides.

“It’s not a similar situation to John Terry, Frank Lampard or Ashley Cole,” the Blues boss said.

“He’s comfortable and we’re comfortable.

“He feels very free and comfortable to make decisions. He feels good, happy. He decided to come here. He’s enjoying his career.

“At the end of the season we’ll see what he wants to do. Maybe he’ll go to Mallorca, or stay with us or Inter Milan.”
