Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing in some added creativity to boost his midfield options before the end of the January transfer window and the 23 year old is reportedly available for a fee of around £13m.
Portillo has become a key performer at La Rosaleda and has looked to fill the void left by Isco’s departure to Real Madrid but the cash-strapped Andalusian side may once again need to offload one of their major stars in order to balance the books and as such Rodgers would do well to make an offer this week.
Rodgers doesn’t have a wealth of central midfield options, especially with Lucas Leiva out injured, and Portillo can play in a number of roles across the park and would no doubt jump at the chance of a move to the Merseyside club, especially with Liverpool mounting a genuine challenge for a top four spot.
Liverpool are yet to invest in new additions this month and no doubt Rodgers will be handed funds to help secure that all important Champions League berth.
