The north London club have made the purchase of the brilliant young Germany international their number one priority of this month’s transfer window.

However, despite sending chief negotiator Dick Law over to Germany on Wednesday to finalise the deal, there were fears that Schalke would prove resistant to letting their star man leave the club.

The Bundesliga outfit have not only demanded that any interested suitor in Draxler pay the full value of the buyout clause in his contract, which is worth a whopping £35m, but that all the money is paid up in full.

But the Gunners are now said to be increasingly confident of not only being able to get their man for nearer to the £30m mark, but also of being able to come up with the funds before the window closes on Friday night.

And the reason that Arsenal are so keen to complete a deal for the 20-year-old now, as opposed to waiting until the summer, is that they are increasingly worries that rival clubs will try and hijack their move for the player then.
