Highly rated young Feyenoord right-back Daryl Janmaat is understood to be holding off putting pen to paper on a new deal with the Eredivisie giants in the hope of receiving a contract offer from Arsenal, according to reports in the Daily Express.

The Netherlands international’s current deal at the De Kuip now only has 18 months on it left to run and Janmaat is so far refusing to commit himself to the club on a long-term basis until the Gunners finalise the situation with their own right-back Bacary Sagna.

The Frenchman’s contract at the Emirates has even less left on it than Janmaat’s does, with Sagna available to purchase on a lucrative Bosman-style free transfer at the end of the campaign.

However, with the 30-year-old said to be demanding a long-term deal from the north London club on significantly greater terms than he is currently receiving in the capital, there are now huge question marks hanging over Sagna’s Arsenal future, giving Janmaat himself renewed hope of getting his dream move to the Emirates next season.

Janmaat, 24, has been with Feyenoord for the past two years now, during which time he has managed to find the back of the net on three occasions in his 46 league outings for the club.
