The Reds’ managing director Ian Ayre has already flown to the Ukraine to open talks with Dnipro over the sale of the 24-year-old, with the Merseyside giants said to be confident of being able to tie up a deal ahead of the Friday cut-off point.

Dnipro are believed to be seeking a transfer fee of around £20m for Konoplyanka having already turned down a number of previous offers for their star man in the past, although it is also understood that the Ukrainian outfit would be willing to accept a fee somewhere in the region of between £15m and £16m for the winger.

However, reports have also begun to emerge of rival interest in the Ukraine international from both the Premier League and the Continent, with the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain all said to also be keen on  Konoplyanka.

All of which will make Ayre desperate to ensure that another big-name signing does not slip through the club’s hands again.
