The 24 year old Japanese international has struggled for form throughout his 18 month spell at Old Trafford and the arrival of Juan Mata further limits his chances of making a significant impact at the Premier League side and as such a return to the German top tier may interest Kagawa.
Kagawa enjoyed two successful season with Borussia Dortmund prior to his Man United switch, winning the domestic title in both campaigns, and now boss Sami Hyypia is keen to bring in the Kobe born midfielder having failed to land Chelsea’s Kevin de Bruyne, who instead opted for a move to Wolfsburg.
Under Sir Alex Ferguson Kagawa had started to make in-roads into the Man United first team set-up, making 22 starts in all competitions and bagging a hat-trick against Norwich City but this season David Moyes has handed the flair player just seven Premier League starts.
Bayer Leverkusen currently sit in second place in the Bundesliga table having overhauled Borussia Dortmund as the main threat to Bayern Munich’s dominance.
