The highly rated England international is already now rightfully regarded as being one of the brightest prospects in the country, with the 20-year-old currently enjoying an eye-catching campaign for the high flying Toffees under new head coach Roberto Martinez.

So much so that his employers have been desperate to tie the playmaker down to a new long-term deal at the club in order to ward off any potential interest in his services from the Premier League big guns.

At the moment, Barkley is contracted to Everton until the summer of 2016, but with talks between the club and the player’s agent having been ongoing since before Christmas, the Toffees are now said to be confident of announcing Barkley’s new bumper deal imminently that will keep the Englishman on Merseyside until June 2018.

Meanwhile for the player himself, Everton are to reward him for his brilliant displays so far this season by significantly raising his current weekly salary from £15,000.
