The Senegal international had appeared all set for a move to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor on transfer deadline day, only for the transfer to collapse at the very last minute.

However, with the Magpies still keen to offload the misfiring striker, Cisse now appears to be heading to Rubin with the Russian transfer window still open for business for another three weeks.

Cisse has managed to find the back of the net on 29 occasions in total in his 79 matches in all competitions, including 22 strikes in his 55 Premier League outings, since arriving in the north east from Bundesliga outfit Freiburg in January 2012 for a fee of 9m euros.

And the 28-year-old is not the only player that Newcastle head coach Alan Pardew is said to be keen to see the back off, with the likes of Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan and Dan Gosling all set to be pushed out of the St James’ Park exit door come the end of the season too.
