Chelsea are set to dip into the striker market this summer with Monaco’s Radamel Falcao at the top of the list.

CaughtOffside understands that the Colombian will be primary focus of Jose Mourinho’s in the close season and his injury during January was the only reason why the club spent heavily on their defence and midfield, but not in attack.

Many had questioned the Special One’s choice to not bring in a new frontman after Fernando Torres suffered a knee injury, and with Samuel Eto’o out of form until hitting a hat trick past Manchester United they were left with just Demba Ba, who has been reduced to a bit part player this season.

The Blues had been rumoured to be close to sealing a deal to bring Falcao to Stamford Bridge over the summer, but he opted for a switch to Ligue 1 moneybags Monaco instead, however, comments made by Mourinho have suggested that he could be ready to try again this time around.

“Many people don’t understand why we don’t do [business] but, in the summer, you will understand,” said Mourinho, when asked why he hadn’t invested in a striker last month.

“No [deals lined up for a striker], but we know what we want.”

Falcao had originally claimed that he hadn’t moved to the principality side for the money, citing the club’s lofty ambitions as his main reason for choosing them over a transfer elsewhere, but rumours have since abounded that he has been unhappy with the standard of football in the French top flight and has grown disillusioned at having to play home games in front of half empty stands.

He has taken to life in France well, though, and prior to his season ending injury had notched up 11 goals in 19 games across all competitions and the side currently occupy 2nd place in the Ligue 1 table, five points off leaders PSG, but eight points clear of third placed Lille.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid goal machine Diego Costa too, though taking their previous interest in Falcao into account it seems that a move for the Colombian international will be more likely.
