The Gunners were thwarted in their attempts to bring in a new strike partner for Olivier Giroud and missed out on late deals to sign both Lazio’s Miroslav Klose and Lille striker Soloman Kalou.

However, sources from Italy are claiming that Arsene Wenger will step up his pursuit of the former Manchester City striker in the summer.

The 23-year-old’s relationship with the Milan hierarchy has been fractious over the past few months as Milan look destined to miss out on qualification for next season’s Champions League and Wenger is said to be keen to capitalise on the situation by making a move and bringing the enigmatic striker back to the United Kingdom.

However, Balotelli’s agent, Mino Raiola, has hinted that the player could be interested in sealing a move to Chelsea as he would like to link up with former Inter boss Jose Mourinho once again.

Despite Milan’s struggles this term Balotelli has managed to find the back of the net 13 times in 25 appearances across all competitions this season.
