Arsene Wenger will look to land the Italian international in a move that would be a real statement of intent from the North London club and is perhaps a distinct possibility if AC Milan fail to secure a Champions League berth next season.

Newly appointed boss Clarence Seedorf faces a huge battle to get his San Siro side back into the top three, the finish needed to earn qualification for the Champions League, with AC Milan some 15 points off Napoli who currently sit in that spot.

Failure to qualify for Europe’s premier club tournament will have massive financial ramifications that could lead owner Silvio Berlusconi to cash in on player sales to balance the books.

Despite his well publicized issues on and off the field of play 23 year old striker Balotelli has been a real hit at AC Milan, netting 21 goals in 29 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri.

Wenger would have to fork out a big fee to lure Balotelli to Arsenal though he would at least know he was bringing in not only a proven goalscorer but also a player who he knows has Premier League experience and would not only adhere to his youthful transfer policy but would also negate the argument that he doesn’t spend enough to improve his squad

Arsenal could well do with bringing in further attacking options to help support Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podoslki.

Prior to his move back to Italy Balotelli scored 19 goals in 40 Premier League appearances, of which 14 were from the bench.
