The Scot first arrived at the west Midlands outfit from Norwich City in June 2012 and the 44-year-old has since done an impressive job rebuilding the first-team squad with younger and cheaper players.

However, having now been assured of more funds at the end of the season from the club’s billionaire American owner Randy Lerner in which to carry on the reshaping of the team, Lambert has now given assurances that he will commit his long-term future to the club.

And all that means that the Glaswegian, whose current deal runs until June 30 2015, is expected to sign a new three-year deal with Villa possibly as early as next month.
