Old Trafford boss David Moyes lacks an out and out defensive midfielder and the use of Marouane Fellaini in a stop-gap holding role certainly didn’t appear to resolve this issue and a move for a tough tackler like Tiote is a wise one to consider.

The Magpies were never going to consider the loss of both Tiote and Yohan Cabaye in January, with the French international completing a move to PSG last month, but Moyes will apparently have more of a chance of landing the Ivory Coast international in the summer.

Moyes attempted to sign the 27 year old ‘enforcer’ during this time at Everton and the former FC Twente star’s representatives have been informed of the Scot’s interest.

Tiote has impressed since moving to St James’ Park, making 107 appearances for the club since his £3.5m move back in August 2010.
