Luckily for the central defender, he was insured!

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou’s loan spell at struggling Bundesliga outfit Hamburg has taken a turn for the worse after the Swiss had an £83,000 watch stolen from his bag in a hotel lobby in the city, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The Switzerland international joined Hamburg on a season-long loan at the beginning of the campaign after falling out of favour with the north London club.

However, it has generally been an unhappy spell for the centre back with his new team, who are currently facing a relegation battle to avoid dropping out of the Bundesliga come the end of the season for the very first time in the club’s history.

And now as if to make matters worse, Djourou has seen his favourite watch, which he bought in central London during his time with the Gunners, stolen from his bag which he left in the lobby of a hotel while he went for a meal with team-mate Jacques Zoma in Hamburg city centre.

“There were things like a wallet and other valuables in it that are very important to me,” said Djourou.

“This is very, very annoying.”
