The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old Uruguayan since before the January transfer window and rumour this week have suggested that the player’s agent has flown to London to hold preliminary talks with the club over a possible summer move.

However, in his usual Friday press conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United he swatted away questions surrounding the PSG man with a clinical demeanour.

“No, in this moment we are trying to sign nobody,” said the Blues boss.

“He just arrived in the club [PSG] six months ago, maybe the club is happy with him and they don’t want him to leave.

“I have no idea in this moment.”

Both Manchester United and Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Cavani too, who would likely cost in excess of £50m should they persuade the Ligue 1 leaders to part with him at the end of the season.

So far this term the hit man has bagged 20 goals in all competitions for the side from the French capital.
