Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in the Man City midfielder, who is currently on loan at Everton, on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign.

Barry has greatly impressed at Goodison Park, form that has left Toffees boss Roberto Martinez looking to sign the 32 year old on a permanent basis, and the box to box performer has enjoyed regular first team football at the Merseyside club.

Gareth Barry has started 19 of Everton’s 23 Premier League fixtures and will know that a move to Arsenal would see him battle the likes of Mathieu Flamini, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky for a spot in the Gunners’ central midfield.

Wenger would also only be able to offer Barry a one year deal, as is club policy on player’s over the age of 30, and as such if Everton offer a longer term deal then there is every chance the former Aston Villa man may opt to remain at Goodison Park.

Barry has made 175 appearances for Man City since his £12m move in June 2009, playing his part in the club’s Premier League triumph back in 2011/12.

Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t appear to need Barry with the likes of Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell ahead of the England international in the Man City pecking order.
