Albrighton has been with Villa his entire career, coming up through the youth ranks until making his first team debut back in 2008. He has since gone on to make 91 appearances over the past five-and-a-half years.

The 24-year-old has seen his time at the club hampered by a series of injuries, but he was loaned out to Championship side Wigan Athletic for a short spell before slowly making his way back into the Villa starting XI.

However, his current deal expires in the summer, and though at one point it looked as though he would have to find a new club, there is now hope for him to stay at Villa after Lambert admitted that fresh talks were imminent.

“I’ll definitely sit down and talk to him,” Lambert said.

“It’s just the way things have worked out with games, his injuries, one after the other, but I know he’s out of contract, so I’ll sit down with him.

“Every time he has come on for me he has done well. He’s just been really unlucky with his injuries which have kept him out for a long spell.

“But he was excellent on Saturday. He put some great balls in, he hit the post and set up the chance for Christian Benteke when he hit the bar.

“He was a plus point, the one really bright spot for us.”
