The England international has become something of a bit-part player at the Etihad Stadium and with just over a year of his current Etihad Stadium deal left to run the 28 year old could well be considering his long term options and a move to Merseyside could tempt the former Leeds United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United man.
Milner has started just seven Premier League fixtures this season and Liverpool failed in a loan bid for the Man City man in January but will re-ignite their interest in the midfielder in the summer.
One imagines that if either Liverpool or Everton were to secure a Champions League berth then their chances of tempting Milner would increase significantly.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers may well feel he could do with fresh midfield reinforcements in the summer, not least as Welshman Joe Allen has had an up and down time of it since moving to the club from Swansea City.
Milner can play out wide or in the centre of midfield and is a player of tremendous experience with over 500 top tier appearances for club and country.
