Chelsea are keen on bringing in Arsenal free agent Bacary Sagna this summer according to the Metro.

The French international, who turns 31 later this week, is now a target of Blues boss Jose Mourinho who may well see the experienced defender as a better option than both Branislav Ivanovic to fill the right-back slot at Stamford Bridge.

Sagna has turned down Arsenal’s offer of a new contract and Man City are also said to be tracking the former Auxerre man.

Arsene Wenger has been ready to change his stance on deals for players over the age of 30, as is current club policy, but was not willing to increase the player’s current £60k a week deal.

Sagna knows he can demand a much higher salary elsewhere, not least as he wouldn’t cost a penny for any prospective buyer in the summer, and a move to West London may attract the Arsenal man, who may well feel settled in the capital.

Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are willing to offer Sagna a massive £120k a week deal, after tax, along with a stunning £10m signing on fee. That is an offer Chelsea may well struggle to compete with though a lot would depend on whether Claudio Ranieri’s side had secured Champions League football for next term.
