Red Devils had been hoping to lure the Chilean to the north west this summer.

Premier League champions Manchester United have suffered a huge blow after it was revealed that long-term midfield target Arturo Vidal has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with Juventus, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The brilliant Chile international is currently one of the most sought-after players on the Continent after turning in a number of eye-catching displays for the Serie A champions since first moving to Turin from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen in July 2011 on a five-year deal for a fee of just €10.5m.

And as a result, new Red Devils head coach David Moyes is understood to have made the 26-year-old his number one transfer target for next season after personally scouting the box-to-box midfielder on a number of occasions so far this season.

However, after Vidal agreed to sign a contract extension back in December that tied the Chilean to Juve until the summer of 2017, the player has now further extended that deal until June 30 2018 on significantly improved terms of £200,000 per week.

All of which now means that Moyes will have to start looking elsewhere for new potential transfer targets to fill the centre of the park at the Theatre of Dreams next season.
